Seventh grade

The pandemic is still in full swing so here they are for the first day of distance learning (compared to one year ago).

Favorite songs to sing in the shower:
Vampire Weekend - Step
Macklemore - Thrift Shop

Favorite activities:
Minecraft world building with bay area or norcal team that has given him admin privileges (they don't seem to know he is twelve).

Bike riding/jumping/mountain biking at Dirt World, Joaquin Miller, and jumps constructed at and around King middle school over the summer.

Foods:  Cold chai lattes.  Dark chocolate.  Burgers.  Pho.

Friends:  Samantha, Oren, Emmett, Kayhan, Kiran, Julian.

Missing:  Lacrosse, school, most kinds of fun.

Favorite books:  Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan Maguire, Lady Astronaut series by Mary Robinette Kowal.

Grew an inch in the past three months, and another inch in the three months before that.

covid19

Sheltering in place is hard.  Not seeing friends, no team sports, too much time with parents at the exact time when that feeling of wanting to separate from them & branch off into your own life is becoming strong.

Social distance walks 6 feet separated from a friend can help.  Even if you have to wear a mask.  And there is online time —Kerbel Space Program, other videogames, Magic the Gathering online.  And a fair amount of random youtube.

Twelve

12.
D&D.  Making maps.
Making plans with friends on his own to meet at the game cafe Victor Point on Christmas Eve.
Saxophone and piano.  Discovering  "Chordify" and teaching himself pop tunes on the piano.
Showers with loud music.
Music everywhere all the time in headphones.
Rap, eighties pop, modern pop. 
Sleepover party with lord of the rings movie marathon, and hiking treasure hunt.
Magic the gathering.
Bike jumping.  Lacrosse.  Ultimate frisbee.  Snowboarding.  Sailing.  Six Flags with cousins.
